On Friday, April 29, 2022, Berkeley City College President Angélica Garcia hosted a Fireside Chat as part of the Peralta Colleges Foundation Distinguished Leaders Community Conversations series. The event was titled BCC’s Vision for Equitable Education for All, focusing on BCC’s mission to provide quality education for all who come through our doors, regardless of ethnicity, financial restraints, or life circumstances; and examining BCC’s challenges and goals for achieving this mission. Berkeley City College thanks the Peralta Colleges Foundation Executive Director LaNiece Jones for organizing, and PCF board member Tasion Kwamilele for moderating the event.

Working every day to better the lives of the Peralta community, our faculty brings immeasurable talent and experience to bear in the classroom. At the March 8 meeting of the Peralta Board of Trustees, a strong list of faculty from across the district received tenure.

On May 18, 2022, the Executive Board of the California Community Colleges Chief Instructional Officers (CCCCIO) voted Kuni Hay, Berkeley City College's Vice President of Instruction, as the organization’s 2022-23 Academic Year President-Elect and Conference Co-Chair. Alongside newly-elected President Tram Vo-Kumamoto, Hay will be the first Asian-American woman to fill the leadership role.

BCC Society of Scholars Graduation Ceremony

Berkeley City college Society of Scholars and the Undocumented Community Resource celebrated their ICONIC Class of 2022 graduates and their amazing accomplishments on Wednesday, May 18th. The celebration included icon shoutouts and graduates sharing some BCC memorable moments.

Multimedia Art & Film Showcase at BCC

Berkeley City College’s Multimedia Film & Art Department hosted a showcase of student works Wednesday, May 5. It was the first in-person showcase in two years with students and faculty gathering to appreciate the artwork created by students. Photo projects, paintings, and even motion capture technology were on display.

Chancellor Jackson, along with several cabinet members and the BuildPeralta Bond team, recently met with the Downtown Berkeley Association to present their plans for expanding Berkeley City College with the construction of a new building. The project would add a new six-story building on a site at the corner of Milvia and Center Streets to expand the number of classrooms, add art studios, increase learning resource facilities, and expand student and faculty support areas for BCC.

Berkeley City College is proud to announce we have been named the 2022 Champion for Excelling in Equitable Course Placement in Black English Enrollment by The Campaign for College Opportunity. The award recognizes Berkeley City College for successfully supporting 100% of Black students to enroll directly into transfer-level English coursework.

Berkeley City College’s First Annual Career Fair

Berkeley City College hosted its First Annual Career Fair on Thursday, April 7. The event was organized by Hispanic Serving Institution Director Verónica Montoya, Outreach Program Specialist Christine Trowbridge, and FDIP Counseling Intern Angelica Peña. The all-day event engaged students in creating career pathways and prepared them for life in the workforce.
