Peralta faculty brought two resolutions to the 2024 Fall Plenary Session of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges, Nov. 6-9 in Visalia. Both resolutions—one urging increased support for Early Childhood Education programs and another calling for UCs to accept articulation of ESOL oral communication classes—passed overwhelmingly and thereby "set direction for the [state senate] as a whole." The plenary brings together hundreds of faculty members from across the state for general information sessions and specialized panels on a variety of hot community college topics (among this year’s: AI, budgeting, IDEAA and CORs, and common course numbering). First-time attendee Jacinda Marshall (CoA AS Senator, SAS Counseling) joined seasoned plenary vets Leslie Blackie (Laney FS president, Biology), Matthew Freeman (BCC AS president, Political Science), Matthew Goldstein (DAS president, CoA Humanities), and Tom Renbarger (Merritt AS president, Physics/Astronomy).
Leaders of Peralta's Academic Senates hit the road in the district van for the ASCCC Fall Plenary (L to R: Matthew Goldstein, Leslie Blackie, Tom Renbarger, Matthew Freeman, and Jacinda Marshall).
