Peralta Bids Farewell and a Happy Retirement to Long-Time Employee Alfredo Colon

Alfredo Colon

Alfredo Colon, or Freddy as he liked to be called, retired this week effective July 18th, after more than 39 years working for the district. A Utility Engineer in the General Services department, we wish Freddy the best with the next chapter in his life, which will, fortunately for Peralta, include Freddy’s presence at Peralta in a part-time capacity.

With nearly four-decades of experience, Freddy had some great suggestions for employees at Peralta at a reception celebrating his career.

“Just do your job, move around and learn. You can learn a lot from Peralta, If you get a chance to change departments, go for it. I’ve been here a long time. I started as a custodian and went all the way to an engineer. I went to gardening, I worked out of class as a utility engineer, I was a driver for the chancellor for a while. If you get a chance, go for it. Step up."

As for what he has planned after retirement “It’s gonna be a new life for me. I plan to just enjoy life – it’s a different world. Since I’ve been at Peralta I got married, had kids… grandkids… the work part of my life is over for now, but I’ll be back.”
