In honor of Black History Month, Peralta TV is broadcasting its award-winning documentary “MERRITT COLLEGE: HOME OF THE BLACK PANTHERS,” narrated by U. S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee, it is a powerful film that chronicles the birth of the Black Panther Party at Merritt College during the politically, socially and economically turbulent 1960s.  

It is a compelling story about social justice and political activism told through rare interviews with party members, featuring original artwork from Panther publications as well as rarely seen photos and archival videos. Watch this comprehensive and informative historical documentary on one of the most controversial and effective social movements in the United States in the past 50 years. October 1966 began a movement that 57 years later is still one of the staples in the history of social change in this country.

AWADAGIN PRATT: BLACK IN AMERICA reveals his climb to fame and is a candid conversation about what it is like to be a person of color in the United States. The film confronts issues of privilege and racism in America and tells a personal account of an all-too-common experience for many people of color in America and worldwide.

THE BRIGHT PATH: THE JOHNNY BRIGHT STORY chronicles the life and career of African American Drake University football player Johnny Bright who as a walk-on at Drake University in 1949, smashed college football records during his sophomore and junior years. In 1951 his college career abruptly ended from an act of violence during his senior year. Bright's story is one of resilience as the documentary explores how he overcame racial obstacles to carve out his own path in life to become a Hall of Fame athlete and award-winning educator.
