Dr. Mildred Lewis joins COA as Interim Vice President of Student Services

Dear COA Family,

It is with great pleasure that I share with you the appointment of Dr. Mildred Lewis as the Interim Vice President of Student Services (VPSS) at COA. Dr. Lewis's first day of service as the Interim VPSS will be tomorrow, March 1, 2023. Please, stop by her office to welcome her to the COA family.

Dr. Lewis has been a member of the Peralta Community Colleges for 23 years. Most recently, she was the Dean of Enrollment Services at Laney College for over a decade in charge of a complex fiscal portfolio, as well as administering the student standards of conduct, discipline procedures, and due process.

In her capacity as a Dean, a few of her accomplishments range from leading Enrollment Campaigns, ranging from commercials, Tik Tok enrollment campaigns, student-centered enrollment pages, Student Connections call campaign, and other outreach college engagements and enrollment events. Furthermore, she created the colleges gold award-winning culturally inclusive Welcome and college virtual tour videos along with enrollment steps. She has also co-led three Department of Education Institutional Program Reviews and led the design and implementation repurposing of the Assessment Department for institutional effectiveness after AB705 as the Recruitment, Assessment, and School Relations Department.

In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Lewis has also been a scholar/lecturer at Mills College in the School of Education for five years. More specifically she facilitated graduate seminars for students matriculating for their Master of Arts and Doctorate degrees in Educational Leadership. Her favorite courses were Inquiry into Leadership, Issues and Trends in the Community College System, and California Community College History, Politics & Policy. Dr. Lewis also taught at the community college level as an adjunct faculty in the Humanities Department.

Finally, Dr. Lewis holds a Doctorate and Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Mills College, a Master of Arts in Theology from the University of San Francisco, a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy & Religion from San Francisco State University, an Associate of Arts in French from College of Marin, and a Certificate in Design Thinking from Stanford Graduate School of Business – Great Learning.
