“BCC in the Community” Outreach Launch
Berkeley City College launched the BCC in the Community outreach effort the week of July 11. BCC President Angélica Garcia, Student Ambassador Noel Arikew, Outreach Coordinator Gail Pendleton, Dr. Martin De Mucha Flores, and Public Information Officer Tom Rizza, visited 5 BCC students at their homes and workplaces.
The team welcomed new and current BCC students ahead of the upcoming fall semester with greetings from President Garcia and a gift bag of BCC items such as notebooks, writing utensils, a Clipper card, and a Visa gift card.
The visits included a recent Berkeley High School grad and new BCC student working at a local summer camp, a current BCC biotechnology student interning at the Lawrence National Science Laboratory, and a returning BCC student who is a single mother and small business owner of Creations Berkeley.
“I appreciated driving throughout our local community and the students for welcoming us,” said President Garcia. “They are remarkable humans and our community is richer because of them.”
The project was inspired by a colleague and friend of President Garcia, Dr. Claudia Schrader, President of Kingsborough Community College, who has been doing the “KCC Welcome Wagon” for the past year and a half. President Garcia called President Schrader while driving to one of the visits so she could see our “BCC in the Community” in action.

NOVA Scholars Gallery Walk
Berkeley City College hosted local 9th-grade scholars for the “Networking Opportunities, Vision, and Action” (NOVA) Gallery Walk in the BCC Atrium on Thursday, July 14. It was an opportunity for the rising scholars to display their summer projects and tell stories about themselves to their fellow students. The final projects shared their lifestyle dreams, goals, and expectations for their future in academia and their careers. The program is in partnership with the Berkeley High School RISE Program in which 9th-grade scholars complete a series of BCC Career Exploration courses, a dual enrollment pathway.
Campus Tours are Open at BCC
Campus tours are back! BCC has received an influx of requests for campus tours as BCC’s in-person instruction and services open full time. Most of the attendees for the campus tours consisted of prospective students along with their friends and families. All tours are led by our amazing Student Ambassadors, who will guide our visitors along the tour while sharing the amazing resources and services that we offer on campus. Booking a tour is simple, students can book a tour on the Berkeley City College website. Each tour lasts about 90 minutes. We hope to see you at our campus tours this upcoming semester!
