College of Alameda celebrated its 2023 graduates with a fully in-person event on May 26 on the CoA soccer field. The commencement ceremony included speeches from Acting CoA President Dr. Diana Bajrami, incoming President of the Faculty Senate of College of Alameda Jennifer Fowler, and Valedictorian Verlie Carmack Collins. In her closing remarks, Collins had this to say to her fellow graduates:
"We need courage to never give up. So as you go out into the world, keep your dreams alive. Let curiosity guide you to be the person you envision yourself to be and to know that it's never too late; you're never too old to learn more and do more, and to do your best. Don't give up on your dreams, or your dreams will give up on you. The moment you believe you can't do it, everything else begins to crumble. Never stop believing. Stay focused, persistent, and relentless."
