40% of Laney CalWorks Students Make Honor Roll

Graduation may be over, but Laney faculty, staff, and administrators are still celebrating the student success that was cultivated during the spring semester. CalWorks Program Coordinator, Cynthia Alvarado, boasted a big smile when she informed the Public Information Office that 40% of her students made the honor roll, which is a major increase from the typical one to two students.

Congratulations to the College of Alameda Class of 2022

Spring semester concluded with joyful celebrations of student success at College of Alameda (CoA). On May 27, 2022, CoA held innovative virtual and in-person commencement celebrations titled GradFest. PCCD Trustees Linda Handy and Dr. Cynthia Napoli-Abella Reis, and PCCD Chancellor Dr. Jannett N. Jackson joined College faculty, administrators, staff, and students for the upbeat commencement festivities held on campus from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Berkeley City College Educational Master Plan-DREAMing 5 Years Out

The Accreditation Commission for Community & Junior Colleges (ACCJC) sets and evaluates the standards for the California Community College system. BCC’s most recent accreditation peer-team site visit and Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER) highlighted many of the college’s previous strategic priorities, such as growth in Dual Enrollment, increase in equitable transfer rates, growth in career education programs, and comprehensive academic and student supports.

24 Laney Machine Tech Students Awarded $19k in Scholarships

Twenty-four Laney Machine Technology students were awarded $19,000 in scholarships, through the Peralta Foundation, funded through donations by the Gene Haas Foundation. The Laney Machine Technology Haas Foundation Scholarship has been offered since 2013. Over that period 225 scholarships have been awarded for a total of $175,000.

Merritt College Pre-Collegiate Academy

Merritt College is excited to welcome back to our campus the Pre-Collegiate Academy. In 1991, the East Bay Consortium, in collaboration with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) and Merritt College, instituted the Pre-Collegiate Academy (PCA), as a program specifically designed for students in Oakland middle and secondary schools. The PCA was established to remedy the growing number of students from low socio-economic backgrounds who were not qualifying for admission to higher educational institutions.
