Greetings District Community,

I hope you're doing well and enjoying some of this exceptional weather. I'm here to share some updates with you.

Our quest for exceptional district leadership continues as we progress through the recruitment process for pivotal positions such as the President for the College of Alameda, the Chief Operating Officer, and the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources. Additionally, I'm pleased to announce the realignment of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Educational Services to a vice chancellor role, alongside the recruitment of a general counsel to fortify our core operations across the District.

In my recent districtwide listening sessions, safety and security emerged as prominent themes. Tomorrow, anticipate receiving a crucial survey link aimed at gathering your invaluable feedback. This survey marks the initiation of a broader exploration into long-term safety strategies, with heartfelt thanks to the Holistic Safety and Wellness Committee for their insights. Furthermore, we're organizing a listening session and feedback forum on Monday, May 6, both in-person and online. Stay tuned for further details. As part of our commitment to safety enhancement, we're also initiating the interim appointment process for the vacant Executive Director for Public Safety and Security position.  I’ve elected to recruit for an interim position to ensure our future configuration aligns with the long-term strategic vision we adopt.

Interim Vice Chancellor Atheria Smith recently bid farewell as she embarks on her well-deserved retirement journey. I extend my deepest gratitude for her dedicated service to the District, and rest assured, the District General Services team remains steadfast in their support for maintenance, operations, and capital projects.

Keep an eye out for forthcoming announcements regarding the launch of our whimsically named Flying Pigs Awards and the creation of a districtwide quilt project. Inspired by the insightful session led by Dr. Maria Spencer during the Spring Speaker Series, where she explored "The Art of Repurposing New and Vintage Items into Saleable Items," we invite your participation in crafting something truly special. Look forward to engaging with us at the campuses and here at the District Service Center in early May!

Lastly, I eagerly anticipate meeting some of you at tomorrow's Berkeley City College 50th Anniversary Block Party celebration and the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Milvia Street Expansion. My heartfelt gratitude goes to President Richardson, Vice President Brooks, and the entire organizing team for orchestrating this memorable event. Here's to hoping we can share some delightful moments, indulge in tacos, and perhaps even dance a little!

I hope to see you soon!
