On Friday, February 27, 2026, members of the District-wide shared governance committees and the three Transformation taskforces gathered at Merritt College for reports on Fall 2025 shared governance activities - with a special focus on the Transformation Plan. The event was hosted by District Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson, District Academic Senate President Dr. Leslie Blackie, and Peralta Classified Senate President Ms. Tachetta Henry.
The afternoon meeting kicked off with presentations by each of the shared governance committees, followed by a Dream Exercise for imagining best-case scenarios for Dual and Concurrent Enrollment, Weekend and Evening Classes, Distance Education, and Course Program Assessment.
A highlight of the day was the final presentation from the Unification Taskforce, presented by students Bianca Ramirez and Kristina Hoessl, along with Laney Interim President Dr. Becky Opsata (with help from student Rosa Perez, who was unable to attend because she was visiting a potential university for transfer!). They did a wonderful job.
At the Board of Trustees meeting on March 10th, Chancellor Gilkerson commented, “As I told the attendees, it has been a little over a year since we’ve been working with the new Shared Governance model, and I’m so proud of the work that we are doing collectively and collaboratively. My gratitude to all who are participating in our shared governance committees and taskforces. Our new system is working, particularly with the Transformation plan.”
