Chancellor's Report - August 13, 2024

The Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees held an efficient and productive meeting on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. A recording of the full meeting is available on YouTube here (1 hour 20 min) while a video of the Chancellor's Report to the Board is available here (24 min). 

Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson, Peralta Community College District Chancellor, began this agenda item by inviting reports from each of the college presidents including:

• Dr. David M. Johnson, President of Merritt College
• Dr. Denise Richardson, President of Berkeley City College
• Dr. Rudy Besikof, President of Laney College
• and the debut report from President Melanie Dixon of  College of Alameda

Chancellor Gilkerson then shared information from the District Service Center, first by welcoming new district leaders including Greg Nelson (Deputy Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer) and Abdul Pridgen (Interim Executive Director of Public Safety) who began on July 1st, and Melanie Dixon (College of Alameda President) who started July 15th.  Get to know these new Peralta leaders by watching Chancellor Gilkerson interview Greg and Abdul in her office, and her interview with Melanie at COA. 

Dr. Gilkerson continued with an update on advertising. Enrollment of the summer 2024 semester was up about 1.5% over last year.  The district's Fall enrollment campaign, managed by Peralta's Award Winning department of Marketing, Communication & Public Relations,  features college-branded ads with the theme, "Love Your Future" (y "Ama Tu Futuro" en Español). English and Spanish ads are running on multiple platforms across our six-city service area of Albany, Emeryville, Berkeley, Alameda, Oakland, and Piedmont.  She gave well-deserved shoutouts to Marcus Creel (Graphic Design Specialist) who created scores of college-branded ads in various shapes and sizes, Angel Hunter (Video Production Specialist) who produced and narrated the English versions of college-branded video ads, and Angel's collaborator Natalie Rodriguez (Director of Student Activities & Campus Life at COA) who translated and narrated the Spanish videos. 

Dr. Gilkerson then celebrated the employees who helped organize informative and productive events including:

• the Professional Development Summer Symposium: Reigniting Our Passion for Classified Professionals that took place on July 10th at Merritt College 
• the District Service Center Team Potluck on August 8th  in the Atrium
• the Contract Workshop on August 9th at the Laney Fieldhouse
• the International Education Welcome Event at the District Service Center on August 9th
• the Budget Town Hall virtual event on August 9th
• and the Alameda County Public Higher Education Basic Needs Alliance meeting at Berkeley City College on August 13th
