“Congratulations Fremont High Media Academy for your contribution to higher education!"
Michael Moya, Laney Photography Adjunct Instructor
Fremont High School’s Media Academy in partnership with Laney College was one of only two schools to receive the “Distinguished California Partnership Academy” designation.
"You are one of the finest academies in California, and we at the California Department of Education could not be more proud of your accomplishment. Every day, teachers across the state work tirelessly to ensure students have the support they need to become engaged and productive citizens. It's clear that the Fremont Media Academy rises above other academies," said the California Department of Education.
Established in 1986, the Media Academy is a small learning community at Fremont High School that provides a rigorous, relevant curriculum which meets or surpasses the A-G requirements for the California State University and the University of California systems. Classes and extracurriculars integrate multimedia into the curriculum.
To earn the Distinguished Academy designation, California Partnership Academies must pass a thorough audit of all program components mandated by California Education Code. This involves a meticulous review of reporting documents, followed by site visits to certify:
“It is exciting to see the success that the Fremont Media Academy and its students are having,” said OUSD Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell. “OUSD’s focus is on ensuring that our high school students have excellent pathways, which truly connect their academic work with potential future careers. The Media Academy does an outstanding job of making connections, and not just between students’ studies and possible jobs, but also between students and professionals in their desired careers. I thank the California Department of Education for recognizing the great work happening at Fremont High and for honoring the Media Academy and all the students who use the education gained there to propel them into the next phase of their lives.”
