Welcome to Black Student Success Week, which is April 21-25, 2025. The state-wide theme this year is "Lift Up. Level Up. The Rise of Black-Serving Institutions." There are events happening all week both here at the colleges and online.
Black Student Success Week emphasizes how we are serving underserved students, including but not limited to Black and African American students, to support and ensure their success in community colleges and beyond. Many of the week’s activities will be held virtually and include the following:
- Daily webinars hosted from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., called The Black Hour - details below
- Daily small group discussion forums from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., called The After Party
- A virtual advocacy day on Thursday, April 24, 2025, called The BlackOut
- Daily student-centered webinars hosted from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., called The Student Hour
- An in-person closing party at regional host sites on Friday, April 25, 2025, called The Sneaker Ball
The Black Hour
The Black Hour webinars will be held via Zoom and live-streamed on YouTube.

The Black Hour Attendee & Watch Party Giveaway
This year, all The Black Hour webinar and watch party attendees will be entered into a daily drawing to win a $50 Costco gift card. A total of 5 recipients (3 online webinars and 2 watch parties) will be selected each day following The Black Hour webinar. The Student Hour
Registration is open for The Student Hour, which will be held from April 21-April 24, 2025, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. This year’s topics include basic needs and financial intelligence, transferring to a four-year college or university, good-paying career paths, and the availability of financial aid.

The Sneaker Ball
The Sneaker Ball is an in-person closing party scheduled for
Friday, April 25, 2025, from
5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m at Merritt College. Merritt is one of several regional host sites throughout the state. This party will foster community and connection with students, faculty, staff, and administrators across the California Community College system. Please click
