On Friday, March 6, Peralta hosted its annual district-wide celebration of the Lunar New Year alongside the college presidents and Board Trustee Nicky Gonzalez Yuen. This is the Year of the Fire Horse, a symbol of energy, courage, and bold transformation. In many traditions, the Fire Horse represents momentum, independence, and the willingness to move forward with confidence, even when the path ahead is new.
"Across Peralta, we are in a season of transformation," said Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson, "Reimagining how we serve students, strengthening pathways into college & careers, and asking ourselves an important question: what else might be possible for our community? Like the Fire Horse, this work requires vision, bravery, and the willingness to move together toward something greater."
Many thanks to the organizers and volunteers Chungwei Chum, Julie Saechao, Nickey Heredia, Joan Su, Phoumy Sayavong, Amy Lee, John Nguyen, Christina Taing-Rivera, Cynthia Taing, Alice Chinn, Vanson Nguyen, and all who helped put on a wonderful event. A special thanks as well to all the students who attended and helped lead the fun games!
May it bring energy to our work, prosperity to our communities, and bold imagination for what we can create together.
