Dear Peralta Community,

In November, Peralta Community College District (PCCD) Trustee Kevin Jenkins was elected to represent District 6 on the Oakland city council. Trustee Jenkins vacated his seat on the Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees on January 9th, 2023, creating a Board Vacancy for Trustee Area 2. 

 

At its regular meeting on January 24, 2023, the PCCD Board took action to fill this vacancy with a provisional appointment. The appointee will hold office until the next regular election date in November 2024. The Board will make the appointment at its February 28, 2023 meeting. Those individuals interested in serving as Trustee should apply online. All eligible residents residing in Trustee Area 2 are welcome to apply for Trustee by February 9, 2023. According to California Education Code 72103: Any person, regardless of sex, who is 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the state, a resident of the community college district, a registered voter, and who is not disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office, is eligible to be elected or appointed a member of a governing board of a community college district without further qualifications.

 

Applications are due February 9, 2023 by close of business (5pm PST) and will be reviewed from February 10-13. Board Interviews will be conducted February 14th – 27th. There may be a public forum for prospective appointees on February 16^th or the following week (February 22-24). Final Candidate Selection will take place at the regular PCCD Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. The new trustee’s first meeting will be on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
