Merritt College Financial Aid Director Recognized

The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) is the only national, nonprofit association with a primary focus on information dissemination, professional development, and legislative and regulatory analysis related to federal student aid programs.

NASFAA recently ran a feature on Merritt College’s Director of Financial Aid, Ernesto Nery. He was also recognized by NASFAA earlier this academic year when Neary was one of only six individuals nationwide to be selected for the NASFAA’s Diversity Leadership Program.

In the piece recognizing his accomplishments, NASFAA commended Neary’s passion for leadership and mentoring – a commitment that was forged when he was an undergraduate student. As a first-generation American and first-generation college student, Neary saw first-hand the complex system that students are forced to navigate to pay for college. His own experience grew his passion to help those who faced similar obstacles.

In the role of Director of Financial Aid, Neary leads his team in maintaining compliance and keeping up with federal and state regulations, while striving to give students the support and resources they need — both financially and on a personal level — to succeed in their pursuit of a degree.

“I want ensure students feel welcomed at their college, are aware of financial aid opportunities to them, and have access to apply and receive institutional, state, and federal aid regardless of race, gender, socio-economic background, or identity,” said Neary.

Please join us in congratulating and applauding the work that he is doing on behalf of our students.
