Last week the Laney College Women's Track & Field Team opened the season at the Jim Linthicum Invite in Cupertino. With a new group of Freshman competitors, this was the first collegiate meet for many of the team, starting a new era at Laney College.
Freshman throwers Jada Joshua, Jackie Beltran, and Tupu Ve'e started the meet with great opening marks. Joshua finished 7th in the field for shot put with a mark of 9.40m and Ve’e finished 1st overall with a mark of 11.75m. Ve’e is currently ranked #1 in NorCal and #2 in the state for shot put. Beltran finished 6th in discus with a mark of 27.71m, which was a personal record from her marks in high school.
On the track, Freshman Camille La Blanc competed in her first 400m race of the season. Ve’e, after completing her throws, quickly made her way to the 100m start for her first race of her collegiate career. Sophomore jumper/sprinter Sheelah Carey finished 7th in the Long Jump, building off a strong freshman season.
Look out for the Eagles as they continue to compete this season! Below is a schedule for the track program. The Eagles are also looking to host a home meet on April 21st at Laney Eagle Stadium.
