Summer 2023 Enrollment

Summer 2023 is in full swing at Laney. The college is currently teaching 126 sections of classes, with a total of 3,041 students in them. This is an 8% growth over the number of students who took summer classes last year. Classes are being taught in all academic divisions, from African American Studies through Wood Tech. Particularly exciting are the career education courses that are being taught as part of the CE Summer Institute.

The Summer Institute is a collaboration with the Oakland Unified School District and is designed to give high school students a taste of college life and to let them explore potential careers. The courses in the Summer Institute are in cosmetology, culinary arts, wood technology, and carpentry.

Johnson Controls Donates $100,000 to Environmental Control Technology Department

The Johnson Controls Company continues to support the Laney Environmental Control Department (ECT) with a generous donation of $65,000 to support students and $35,000 of in-kind Johnson Controls equipment. The equipment will be used for hands-on instruction in the classroom and will ensure that Laney students are skilled in using state-of-the-art equipment that they will find in the workplace. This is the second year that Johnson Controls has generously supported the college and we greatly appreciate it.
