Students at Laney College: 14 More% This Fall!

Five weeks in, and the momentum has not stopped! Laney College student numbers continued to climb throughout September. As of the 22nd, 14% more students (1249) had enrolled in classes than the previous year, and the College had generated 8% more Full-Time Equivalent Students (FTES). More importantly, roughly 1200 more students have applied for Financial Aid than in Fall 2021, making investments in their education that are more likely to continue in future semesters and school years.

Enrollment numbers show that full- and part-time numbers have increased in a similar fashion. 1 in 2 Laney students continue to be over 24 and attending part-time, and 908 more part-time students have joined the college than a year ago, an increase of 6.2%. Surprisingly, though, full-time student growth corresponded with those numbers, as the 341 more students who are taking 12 units or more represented a similar increase of 6.6%. Is Fall is Free having an across-the-board impact? Possibly. Also, as noted below, the increases previously reported in our African American (3.42%) and LatinX (2.78%) student populations saw over the past two weeks.

The work to promote the Fall semester is not done! On October 14 Laney will be doing an on-campus promotion fair to promote classes that begin at the halfway point of the term and welcome both student organizations and learning communities such as Umoja/UBAKA, Puente, APASS and so many others to table and get the word out.

The work continues to have an impact on the community. Laney was featured for its efforts in a 9-minute interview that aired on KTSF television on September 16.
